Driving ambition and taking action
The 2025 GSG Global Leadership Meeting (GLM) was held in Kyoto, Japan, on 20-22 May. Co-hosted by Social Innovation and Investment Foundation (SIIF), GSG National Partner in Japan, it brought together 136 leaders representing 45 countries. Themed "Driving ambition and taking action," discussions focused on forging a collective roadmap to advance the global impact economy.
The GLM is a pivotal invitation-only event for GSG Impact’s core stakeholders – National Partners (NPs), prospective partners (taskforces), strategic partners, and GSG Impact Ambassadors to develop ideas and opportunities to progress within their geographies and across our ecosystem.
94% of participants said conversations were useful for their work.
Developing approaches to de-risk investments for institutional capital and using case studies to evidence financial returns.
Equipping National Partners to develop "Policy Roadmaps" and building capacity with resources like a global "Impact Policy 101" training module.
Harmonising measurement standards and exploring an AI-powered platform to build collective intelligence.
Creating toolkits and playbooks to help local actors structure effective investment vehicles for SMEs in emerging economies.
The insights from the GLM have directly shaped our future strategy. We will enhance our knowledge and community offerings, accelerate work on SME financing, and advance our policy program. New initiatives will focus on mobilising climate finance in the lead-up to COP30 and developing an Impact Narrative Toolbox to support ecosystem engagement.

A guide for Development Finance institutions (DFIs) and all practitioners wanting to increase the flow of capital to SMEs in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs).
The report offers impact economy ecosystem analysis on impact progress in 34 countries with cross-cutting insights. What's unique is that it offers more than market sizing data; it explains how countries are redesigning for impact through policy and practices, building the infrastructure and incentives for impact economies. This includes tracking government actions, market building, impact capital supply, impact capital demand, and contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The GSG Impact Partnership reached a pivotal moment, now spanning 46 countries and covering 65% of the world’s population. Our work in 2024 was centred around (i) advancing impact economies by expanding our community and nurturing ecosystem growth (ii) mobilising private capital at scale, especially in emerging markets, and (iii) enabling greater inclusivity in global sustainability disclosure standards.
